The Load

The Load is an installation by Andrei Olenev which embodies the artist’s painting method. Without containing a painting as such, the elements of the work are arranged to compensate for the absence. The work presents an extraordinary blend of the artist’s traditional themes, archaic materials and new technologies.

“The image of the load has a recurrent presence throughout my career, including early work. My interest, however, is not the object itself, but rather the experience the main character goes through. Here, the viewer is invited to reflect on philosophic issues while considering potential answers I provide. The visual representation of the issue will be familiar to many: wood is the leitmotif in my work. Yet, my recent projects are more often defined by the sound while the role of the visible has been downplayed. Sound fills the work with new meanings and emphasises the inherent sentiments. Changing the work, it also changes itself: in this installation, not only the sound can be heard but also can be felt through vibrations”.
